Leeds Indie Radio
The first song on ‘Sugar and Snarls’ is ‘Level Up’ and it opens the EP with a bang, producing a sound which is buzzing with energy, a rhythm which induces involuntary toe tapping, and a memorable melody which you will find yourself humming, if not shouting. These components laced with guitar riffs, create a chorus of delirium which would come into its own as a live performance.
Music – News
What sets Volcanoes apart from the rest of the indie crowd is their talent with melody. All these songs are laced with wonderful melodies that make the songs interesting to listen to, but they also stick in the mind. Highly recommended.
Buzzin Music
Leeds and Sheffield based indie rockers Volcanoes have released the latest in a line of glorious EPs, Sugar & Snarls boasts yet another quartet of passionate and infectious tracks that twist and turn with refreshing honesty.
Gobshout
Four tracks, four different styles and ultimately four excellent tracks, Sugar And Snarls demonstrates what bands should ultimately be- varied, exciting and entertaining. If Volcanoes can keep this creativity going with their future work, they’ll soon surely be exploding all over the indie music scene.
Shout 4 Music
Accessible without being bland, Volcanoes’ brand of indie rock is well worth checking out – I only hope they won’t fall by the wayside as the electropop renaissance goes from strength to strength.
Entertainment – Focus
Volcanoes might be a little late in joining the dying indie/rock movement but really when you are this good does it matter? The Sugar And Snarls EP is one hell of a music display and we can’t stress that enough. Volcanoes are a bunch of talented kids and this EP should set the record straight.
Tasty Fanzine

Overall, Volcanoes display a variety of guitar influences which they make their own, and demonstrate a surfeit of ideas and song writing ability. The first two tracks here are solid, but not as accomplished as the latter two, yet all four show that Volcanoes have talent to burn.
Altsounds

Smart lyrics, a tight, hungry, almost urgent feel to the music, an impressive back catalogue of EPs and a long, long list of great reviews leaves one question remaining. Why the hell are Volcanoes still unsigned?
Their sound is distinctive, you have to work to make a comparison with anyone else (and no, the really obvious Arctic Monkey comparison because they’re Sheffield and Leeds based, does NOT count in this case: you know you’re scraping the barrel when you’re forced to compare on accent and hometown rather than musical content alone). “Shaking That Brass” is chock full of style switches and experimentation making the five track EP a crash course in adventurous music making, with near perfect results. The mischievous Volcanoes are hot like a laser beam. Fizzing with ideas and in full musical technicolor, this band have had their teeth clenched deep into the UK indie scene and are truly original, imaginative and creative. Based in both Leeds and Sheffield, the band lives in a musical soup; absorbing both scenes and constantly honing their sound. The band has come a long, long way since its humble beginnings as a two-piece acoustic act. Things haven’t always been easy for Volcanoes, not that it is for any band, but they’ve taken plenty of knocks. Now, they’re sounding unstoppable and better and fresher than ever.
